What is Giftedness?

Giftedness is increased intellectual ability which is significantly higher than the average same aged population. No two gifted individuals exhibit the same qualities where he or she has their own unique patterns and traits which perpetuates their strengths. Individuals with giftedness may require modifications to their education environment to excel to their capabilities.


Common signs of Giftedness include:

  • Acquires and retains information quickly;

  • Boredom or loss of interest in school

  • Advanced language skills

  • Large vocabulary

  • May prefer adult conversation and feel like they don’t fit in with peers.

  • Curious attitude, asks lots of questions and opinionated

  • Experiences emotional or behavioural difficulties

Early recognition of Giftedness may aid in a customised curriculum for your child as well as helping your child achieve their full potential.





Getting a Diagnosis

Gaining a diagnosis for Giftedness involves comprehensive evidence-based assessments by a trained psychologist.


Here at the Mind Body Practice, a Giftedness assessment with one of our qualified psychologists will typically include:


1. Initial clinical interview and completion of questionnaires to gather comprehensive background information such as developmental, social, and educational history.


2. Administration of Giftedness assessments by a trained psychologist, which typically includes:

  • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fifth Edition (WISC-V)

  • Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III)

  • Adaptive Behaviour Assessment System - Third Edition (ABAS-3)

3. Feedback session and comprehensive written report within four weeks of the assessment date.
